Molecular GeneticsOverview of the Molecular Genetic ServiceThe Molecular Genetic Laboratory is part of the East of Scotland Regional Genetics Service located in Ninewells Hospital Dundee. Founded in 1986, the laboratory is part of the Scottish Molecular Genetics Consortium (SMGC), a group of four laboratories that work together alongside clinical colleagues to provide testing for a range of inherited conditions. The laboratory In Dundee, works closely with both Clinical Genetics and Cytogenetics to provide molecular genetic testing to both local patients and patients referred from other areas of Scotland. In addition, the laboratory is a member of the UK Genetic Testing Network (UKGTN) and can offer testing for certain disorders on a UK basis.
